Wordpress Website Design

How to make sure you get a great WordPress Website

WordPress is a powerful website builder and a resilient content management system. Owing to its robust features many top brands use WordPress to power their websites, so in our view, WordPress is the way to go –  we have grown our business on its success and we can do the same for you.

We have clients from all walks of life but they all have one thing in common – they need a website to reflect their business and bring customers to their door.

If you are reading this, then the chances are you are already aware that WordPress is a great choice when making the decision on which platform to choose for your website project. There are a number of key reasons why 35% of websites today are built on WordPress (by the way, that’s over 455 million!)….

WordPress was initially designed for non-technical people, so the great thing is, no matter how intricate your website design nor how sophisticated the site is built in order to integrate into your business process flow, the actual updating of the website will be easy for just about anybody to update the content as required.

It is true that all websites are subjected to a variety of attacks from hackers and viruses, irrespective of how they are built. However, WordPress is is one of the most secure platforms on the market. It is important to note that WordPress sites are not free from security breaches and threats and as such EJC Websites have a number of processes and Security plugins which are designed to ensure our websites are as secure as possible.

WordPress sites are not just restricted to the written word. It comes with a built-in media uploader to handle images, audio, and video files to provide you with the ability to offer a creative, dynamic and engaging website. In addition you might like to consider your business process flow and see where your website can become part of that process – from allowing visitors to complete online enquiry forms, make appointments online, check availability of classes. The opportunities are seemingless endless.

Why is WordPress a good choice for your website?

OK, now how do I choose my web designer?

There are many tips and tricks to choosing the best web designer to work with, and in many ways it boils down to how you feel about working with that person (they are, in effect, becoming a part of your business team so you need to be on the same wavelength!). But if it helps to have a checklist, here are our suggestions of some of the things to look out for when selecting your next web designer:

this is your business and you know what you want to achieve. You know how to best present your business to your clients and where you want to look for future clients and business opportunities. If a web designer doesn’t listen to your ideas then you probably don’t want to work with them, and remember, these people are in effect part of your team now so you need to feel that they are truly understanding who you are.

So they have listened to what you have to say, but are they offering any constructive suggestions on how to use your website and digital strategy to drive new business? If a web designer just agrees with you and offers no suggestions, you may find they are giving you exactly the same old stuff that they have given other clients before you…you need to feel inspired by what they bring to the table!

A great website without a marketing strategy is not likely to go very far; you need to know that your chosen web designer is able to take your business further with a marketing strategy including, at the very least, SEO, social media campaigns, PPC etc

You need a content management system for your website to give you the option to make content updates for yourself. Without it, you’ll be trapped into asking your designer to make all your updates to your site. Any decent web designer is familiar with the best content management systems (which is why EJC Websites standardises on WordPress).

If your designer recommends a static HTML website, then make sure you increase the initial budget for the project, plus all those updates that you will be forced to get them to do.

Mobile responsive website design is not a fad; it is without a doubt the best way to design a website these days. Particularly if you want to stay in Google’s good books! If a web designer does not seem totally clued up in responsive design or suggests a separate mobile website is always better, then they’re probably not right for you. While there are some cases where a separate mobile site might have some advantages, responsive design is generally the best solution. As mobile and tablet usage continues to grow (figures stand at over 58% of current webs users), you need to be sure your business is optimised for every device. The right designer will make sure you have all options covered.

The web and internet trends may change very quickly, but that doesn’t mean you should trust some fly-by-night web design company that probably won’t be around next year. Every year there are lots of new website design companies that simply appear —and just as many that close down. A true test of a web design agency’s ability is their longevity. You want a company that’s been around for a while—and one that plans to stick around for the foreseeable future. The more experience a design company has, the more they’ve had to change and adapt with the many new trends of the internet. And the more likely they’ll be around next year to support you and your new website.
